Our achievements in Brussels

In recent years, we have worked very hard to create a city on a human scale. Brussels for people. It was not always easy, but we are convinced that - with a lot of pushing and pulling - we have brought about a fundamental change in Brussels that cannot be reversed.

Beautiful squares and parks

Our parks and squares are the gardens and living rooms of the people of Brussels. Places to unwind, meet people, play sports and play. In recent years, we have transformed the city by turning places dominated by cars into lively parks and neighbourhood squares. And the best is yet to come, as there are still many projects in the pipeline!

  • The abandoned railway site 'Thurn and Taxis' is now a lively park
  • A beautiful park at Porte de Ninove
  • Beco park next to the canal
  • Place Marsupilami in Laeken
  • Place Fernand Cocq in Ixelles
  • Place Flagey in Ixelles
  • Place Jef Mennekens in Molenbeek
  • Place du Miroir in Jette
  • Place Cardinal Mercier in Jette
  • Pedestrian zone in the city centre

A city tailored to every age

Taking care of everyone means creating places tailored to all ages. That means providing housing and care so that our elderly can grow old with dignity, and providing enough party spots where our young people .... can be fully young!
  • In Jourdan Village, Koekelberg's home for the elderly, Brussels residents enjoy their old age
  • CuBe, a place where young people play sports, make music, party, ...
  • Nightlife with the Fuse and other nightclubs
  • Youth centres

Places to grow (and flourish)

Every child deserves a place in the nursery as well as in the classroom. We have worked very hard on new schools and crèches, on high-quality, sustainable infrastructure to give the youngest generation of Brussels residents every opportunity to grow freely and safely and to flourish.

  • 12 Primary school Sint-Joost-aan-Zee in Saint-Josse
  • Primary school De Zennestraal in the city centre, for 240 young Brusselers
  • Crèche Madeliefje
  • Crèche Joost-e-Fien in Saint-Josse
  • Crèche Het huis van het Kind in Anderlecht

Exploring the city easily and safely

Exploring the city easily and safely Fast and affordable public transport is invaluable. This is the only way we can convince people to leave their cars at the curb. That is why we created new tram and bus lines, bought comfortable new metro and tram carriages, and made the switch to electric buses. And by building kilometres of segregated bike lanes, we encouraged scores of Brussels residents to hop on their bikes.

  • Afgescheiden fietspaden langs de Kleine Ring
  • Safe cycling on the Chaussée de Vilvorde
  • Cycle lanes on Avenue Roosevelt
